Billing & Wallets
Understand Nodal's transparent, prepaid ledger system.
Nodal completely removes the need for multiple AI subscriptions (e.g., ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro). Instead, you pay exactly for what you use across all models through a single, unified Prepaid Wallet.
The Workspace Wallet
Every workspace—both personal and team workspaces—has its own wallet.
When you navigate to the Billing section of your workspace, you can see your current balance, your available balance, and a complete history of ledger entries.
- Total Balance: The actual funds currently in your wallet.
- Available Balance: Your total balance minus any active holds (see Request Settlement below).
Request Settlement & Holds
When you hit "Send" in a chat session or trigger an API request, Nodal performs a transparent billing process:
- Cost Estimation: Nodal estimates the maximum possible cost of the request based on the selected model's pricing.
- Hold Reservation: Nodal places a temporary "hold" on your wallet, reducing your Available Balance. This guarantees that you have enough funds to complete the generation.
- Provider Dispatch: The request is sent to the model provider (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic).
- Final Settlement: Once the response finishes streaming, Nodal calculates the exact number of input and output tokens consumed, and settles the actual cost. The initial hold is released.
If you stop a streaming response early, Nodal accurately settles the partial usage. You are only charged for the tokens that were actually generated up to the moment you clicked stop.
Adding Funds
You can top up your workspace wallet via the Billing page. Nodal supports local payment providers like bKash.
Because Nodal is strictly prepaid, there are no surprise overage charges at the end of the month. If your wallet runs out of funds, generation simply pauses until you top up again.
Receipts and Statements
Nodal automatically generates clean, professional financial artifacts for your records:
- Ledger Entries: A line-by-line history of every chat message, file ingestion, and top-up.
- Receipts: Generated automatically whenever you top up your wallet.
- Monthly Statements: Aggregated reports generated at the end of each billing period.
Note: Receipts and statements are restricted financial artifacts. Only workspace Admins and Owners can access them.
API Key Limits
If you have developers using your workspace wallet via the API Gateway, you can create API keys with strict Spending Limits. If an API key attempts a request that would exceed its configured limit, Nodal rejects the request before it ever reaches the provider.
